Haut-Brion's second wine, Le Clarence de Haut-Brion (formely known as Bahans Haut-Brion) was named to honor Clarence Dillon who purchased the estate in 1935. Haut-Brion's second wine carries similar characteristics of its Grand Vin, with exceptional quality and more approachable for earlier drinking.
In comparsion with other second wines of the First-Growths, both Le Clarence de Haut-Brion and Bahans Haut-Brion are the lowest priced and still much less expensive than its Grand Vin. The 2006 Bahans Haut-Brion exhibits classic notes of red currants, earth, and spice in its round, delicious, elegant, forward style. 2010 Le Clarence de Haut-Brion is endowed with gorgeous fruit, texture, purity and elegance. Robert Parker praised 2010 Le Clarence de Haut-Brion as "among the finest I have tasted...this relatively dense second wine demonstrates how draconian the selection process has become for the top estates in Bordeaux in recent years..."
